The Dogwood Days Antique show began on the 15^th at the Leslie Civics Center. The three day show featured a variety of booths and antiques, charging five dollars for admission.

Antique seller JR Angevine, based out of DeLand Florida and Augusta Georgia, has been in the business over 40 years. He told how his father had started collecting antique guns and coins. His mother also had a passion for antiques. Angevine told how his own interest was for silverware, but that he had experience with a wide variety of antiques. Angevine’s booth displayed myriad Tiffany pieces from the Gilded Age. He pointed several out, showing a variety of Olympus themed motifs.

Angevine showed one utensil for serving aspic, the blade reminiscent of a dolphin’s head. Unique utensils were displayed for a variety of individual uses, from serving eggs, tomatoes, and even asparagus. He pointed out one piece with 17 scenes.

Another antique seller, Melissa Henley, who is based in Atlanta, had a booth. She showed off one of her most unique pieces, a bonbonniere, a device for serving bonbons.

The venue featured other sellers as well. George Larson and Bengie Johnson, of Johnson farms, sold vegtables and bottled cane syrup. Beside them, The Town and Country Garden Club of Leslie sold potted plants. Kim Baldwin and Ellen Harris supervised the booth. When asked, Baldwin mentioned that ferns were selling fastest, and that they had a plant connection as one of their members owned the local Cobb nursery.

In the brightly decorated tea room, goers to the antique show were able to try Miss Kay’s Chicken Salad, and barbeque made by the Leslie Men’s Club. Pimento Cheese, Ham and Cheese sandwiches, and a variety of desserts were also on the menu. Linda Bush sat enjoying her meal. She mentioned that she had attended the show for around two decades. “It’s always fun.”
