Raiders lose to Tiftarea Academy in low-scoring affair

CHULA, GA – The Southland Academy Baseball Team (SAR) fell to Tiftarea Academy in a low-scoring affair by the score of 3-2 on Tuesday in Chula, GA.

The Raiders were only able to muster two runs on three hits against TA starter Winston Lamb, who ended up getting the win. In six inning of work, Lamb gave up two runs on three hits, walked four batters and struck out nine.

The Raiders took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Trey Sellers drove in Mac McMichael on a two-out RBI double, but the Panthers responded in the bottom of the first with three runs on two hits and took advantage of a walk and an error. The Raiders were able to get to within one run in the top of the sixth inning. Perry Usher led off the inning with a double and Sellers would later draw a walk with one out. After Cohen Rogers struck out for the second out of the inning, the Raiders executed a double steal with Sellers stealing second base and Usher stealing home. However, that would be as close as the Raiders would get and they would go on to lose by the score of 3-2.

Usher led the Raiders’ offense by going 2 for 3 at the plate with a double, a single and a run scored, while Sellers went 1 for 3 with an RBI double.

SAR starting pitcher Travis Pennington took the loss, as he gave up three runs on six hits, walked four and struck out six batters in six innings of work.

The Raiders (4-2) will try to get back into the win column when they host Tiftarea Academy in a rematch on Friday at 4 p.m.
