Smith’s dominance on the mound leads to victory for Wildcats over Taylor County

BUTLER, GA – Schley County starting pitcher Brody Smith was extremely dominant on the mound against Taylor County and his performance helped lead the Wildcats to a 4-1 victory over Taylor County on Tuesday at Taylor County High School.

Smith went the distance, giving up a run on three hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts.

As far as offense was concerned, Ashton Raybon led the Wildcats’ offense by going 2 for 3 at the plate with a two-run homer in the top of the second inning. Both Trenton Stubbs and Jake Little went 2 for 4 with a run scored and Stubbs was able to drive in a run.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Raybon’s homer in the top of the second, but the Vikings responded in the bottom of the third with a run on a hit and took advantage of a walk and an error.

The Wildcats countered in the top of the fourth when Rylan Conner executed a sacrifice bunt that allowed Wyatt James to score. They would later add to their lead with a run in the top of the fifth when Trenton Stubbs drove in a run on an RBI single. In total, the Wildcats scored four runs on 10 hits and committed one error, while the Vikings scored a run on three hits and committed one error.

The Wildcats are currently 11-1 overall and are in first place at 4-0 in the GHSA Class A Division 2 Area 6 standings. They will try to keep their winning ways going when they host Crisp County this evening at 6 p.m.
