Sumter County tennis teams split with Dodge County

AMERICUS – The Sumter County boys and girls tennis teams (SCHS) were able to earn a split with Dodge County (DC) on Tuesday. The Lady Panthers lost their team match 3-2, but the Panthers were able to earn a 5-0 shut out.

In girls’ action, Georgia Wooden lost to Juliana Pruitt in straight sets 9-7, 6-3 and T’Meia Shootes lost in a hard-fought affair to Marlee Moore 6-3, 4-6, 8-10. Lauren Harris was able to earn the Lady Panthers their lone victory in singles play, as she defeated Ava Cravey in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.

In girls’ doubles action, the SCHS duo of Carolyn Campbell and Autumn Bryant defeated the DC team of Brynlie Williams and Kendall Landin 6-1, 3-6, 10-7, but the SCHS team of Sydney Griffin and Kalee Roe lost to the DC duo of Emma Douglas and Kemper Justice 6-1, 4-6, 9-11. As a result, the Lady Panthers fell to DC 3-2.

In boys’ action, the Panthers were able to earn a 5-0 sweep of DC. Chandler Lyles started things off with a win over Michael Jackson in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 and Willie Burts followed that up with a win over Daniel Rodriguez in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. Jayden Wooden then won in a forfeit to ensure a team victory for the Panthers.
