Panthers earn victory over Dodge County in penalty shootout

AMERICUS – The Sumter County Varsity Boys Soccer Team (SCHS) battled Dodge County through regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods with the score tied at 1-1. It would come down to a penalty shootout, but the Panthers were able to prevail, as Kevaughn Hart, Luis Diaz and Trevor Cape made all of their penalties to give the Panthers the victory.

The Panthers took a 1-0 lead with 17 minutes left in the first half when Juan Aguirre scored off an assist from Damien Cruz. The Indians were able to score early in the second half to tie the game at 1-1. Neither team could score a go-ahead goal in regulation, so the game would go into two 10-minute overtime periods.

The Panthers had a shot on goal during the overtime period that was stopped by the DC goalkeeper, but SCHS goalkeeper Alan Gonzalez was able to save a shot on goal by the Indians.

After the two overtime periods were done, the score remained tied at 1-1 and the game would go to a penalty shootout. The Panthers were able to prevail, as Kevaughn Hart, Luis Diaz and Trevor Cape all made their penalty kicks to give SCHS a 3-1 victory.
