The Sumter County School Board met on April 11th. Knighton updated the Board. “For the month of March, Splost collection is $489,272.80. Our Georgia power bill for the month of March is $28,316.21. Our Sumter EMC bill is $42,410.88. Water, Sewer, and Sanitation Bill for the month of March $24,334.29. City of Americus Energy Bill, $9,235.99, Cellphone Bill for the Month of March, also $1,875.11.”

He gave the millage rate. “Our Millage is 18.069, which generates for us, one mill, approximately $734,613. We have an operating budget of $45,478,845.”

The Board gave recognitions. The following staff were recognized: Vamsee Mallineni for district director of the month, Mary Minter for district staff member of the month, and Lawanda Williams as transportation staff member of the month.

The following exemplary students were recognized by the Board:

In Sumter County Primary School, Amari Peeples in Pre-K, Kaja Davis in Kindergarten, and Mia Frederick in 1rst grade.

In Sumter County Elementary School, Chloe Williams in 2nd grade, and Princeton Brown in 3rd grade.

In Sumter County Intermediary School, Selion Woodensky in 4th grade, Zi’Kayelynn Denmark in 5th grade, and Monica Cruz Belmontes in 6th grade.

In Sumter County Middle School, Neyla Howard in 7th grade, and  Jordan Miller in 8th grade.

In Sumter County High School, Makayla Mann in 9th grade, David Howard in 10th, Khamari Griffin in 11th grade, and Christopher Ingram in 12th grade.

Students recognized for growth in STAR math assessment were as follows:

Jakhari Angry in 1rst grade, Khori Martin in 2nd grade, Javion Boone in 3rd grade, Ellian Aparacio Malacara in 4th grade, Jose Luis Gomez-Lopez in 5th grade, Jazmin Garcia Diaz in 6th grade, Jersiyah Johnson in 7th grade, La’Niveah Garner in 8th grade, Montravious West in 9th grade, Arthur Mays in 10th grade, Ashuntis Murphy in 11th grade, and Alani Thomas in 12th grade.

Students recognized for growth in STAR reading were as follows:

Junior Diaz Mendez in kindergarten, Armani Binn in 1rst grade, Ava Avery in 2nd grade, Rashad Cooper in 3rd grade, Jace Jackson in 4th grade, Princeton Williams in 5th grade, Kerry Champion in 6th grade, Antavious McKinnon in 7th grade, Williams Dominguez Serrano in 8th grade, Anna Perez-Perez in 9th grade, Jahkary Larkins in 10th grade, Tony Wilcher in 11th grade, and Morgan Tyson in 12th grade.

The Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition Winners and Honorable Mentions were recognized by the Board.

Dylan Frederick was the first-place winner in kindergarten. The following received honorable mention: Chloe Williams in 2nd grade, Mia Segundo in 3rd grade, Jy’Tyria Hurley in 8th grade, Interrea Moses in 10th grade, and Aurion Alexander in 11th grade.
