Americus—When told her sick husband’s only care option was a costly nursing home, Essie Sims told the hospital discharge planner her preference: “I want my doctor to order a comprehensive home care plan, so Mac can stay at home and get the care he needs.”

Saturday, April 20, Sumter County women are invited to learn how get the health care they need and want, at the monthly Women’s Summit. The informal gathering is from 11-12:30 at Green Grove Baptist Church, North Lee Street.

Health care is personal, and whether we need rehabilitation or have questions about the need for another test, women must communicate successfully with their doctors. Ciera Raven, RN, owner and operator of Graceful Hands Home Care, is a featured guest speaker. Mrs. Raven is dedicated to increasing the quality of life of those living at home with dementia, and their caregivers. Area public health nurse Luneda Brown will also be on hand.

“I want other women to learn how to get the care they want for themselves and their loved ones, “ said Mrs. Sim’s, one of the Women’s Summit leaders. Thanks to a meeting with a public
health care nurse and a long term care advocate, her husband is receiving essential care at home, and the family didn’t have to go on Medicaid.

Free of charge and open to the public, the Women’s Summit is at 1216 N. Lee Street in Americus. Refreshments will be served. Questions? Call 229-942-3805.
