AUGUSTA – The third-ranked Georgia Southwestern men’s golf team posted a 1-over-par 289 in the final round of the Peach Belt Conference Championship at the par-72, 7,086-yard Forest Hills Golf Club on Sunday to move up one position and finish in second place out of eight teams. All four of the GSW golfers to finish the three-day, three-round event landed in the top half of the 40-player field.

Jack Tharrington led the Hurricanes with a 2-under 214 to finish in ninth place. His 69 in Round 2 was GSW’s lowest round of the tournament. Tharrington led the entire field by playing the Par 3 holes at 2-under for the week and he ranked third overall with 13 birdies. It was Tharrington’s fourth Top 10 finish of the season and the eighth of his career. He matched his finish from last year’s PBC Championship. Payne Sells moved up four spots on Sunday after firing a 71 in the final round to finish tied for 10th at 1-under overall. It was Sells’ fourth Top 10 finish of the season. Joao Costa tied for 16th place with a 2-over 218 and Mateo Quiroga made the largest jump in Round 3, moving up eight spots to finish tied for 18th, a stroke behind Costa at 219.

The top-ranked team in the country, North Georgia, won the event with an 18-under par. Jack Vajda from North Georgia won the individual title with a 12-under 204, five strokes ahead of Bernard Meyer from Columbus State in second place.

GSW takes home hardware for the second consecutive season. The Hurricanes won their first-ever PBC Championship last season and now claim their first runner-up trophy. The team now awaits an invitation to the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional which will be revealed on Friday. Regional play begins Thursday, May 9.
