TIFTON – The Schley County Wildcat baseball team (SCHS) came from two runs down in the top of the seventh inning by scoring three runs on four hits to earn a 6-5 victory over the Tift County Blue Devils on Friday, April 19, at Tift County High School.

The Wildcats have now swept the two-game series, having defeated TC 2-1 back on Tuesday, April 16.

With one out in the top of the seventh, Jay Kanazawa singled to left field and Oscar Lloyd followed that up with an RBI double, scoring Kanazawa. Jack Clark then tied the game at 5-5 on an RBI single and Trenton Stubbs followed that up with a double, putting runners at second and third with one out. After JuJu Salazar was intentionally walked to load the bases, Clark scored from third on a wild pitch and the Wildcats had a 6-5 lead.

The Blue Devils threatened with base runners in the bottom of the seventh, but Rylan Conner was able to retire the final two outs to preserve the victory.

Stubbs led the Wildcats’ offense by going 2 for 4 at the plate with a double and Oscar Lloyd went 1 for 3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.

Brody Smith got the start on the mound for SCHS. In a little over four innings of work, he gave up five runs on seven hits with five walks and three strikeouts.

Rylan Conner came on in relief of Smith. In a little over two scoreless innings of work, he gave up just two hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

The Blue Devils took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first as the result of four walks and two errors, but SCHS responded in the top of the second with two runs on a walk, an error, a wild pitch and a fielder’s choice by Jake Little.

SCHS added another run tin the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Salazar, bringing the Wildcats closer at 4-3, but the Blue Devils tacked on their fifth run of the game by scoring on an error in the bottom of the fifth.

Fortunately for SCHS, they were able to come up with the clutch hitting in the top of the seventh to make the comeback and earn the 6-5 victory.

Having completed the regular season, the Wildcats (23-3) will now get ready for the GHSA Class A Division 2 state playoffs. Date, time and opponent are still to be determined.
