The Sumter Area ministerial Association (SAMA) is partnering with the Americus Sumter County Arts Council to host a children and youth art contest. The theme “A Beloved Community Lives in Unity” draws it’s inspiration from Psalm 133:1 “How pleasant it is when sisters and brothers live together in harmony!” Submissions are required to reflect this theme of living well together as children of God.

Contestants may submit up to three pieces of their work, and entry fees will not be required. Exhibit will be displayed during the Americus Music Festival at Calvary church, 408 South Lee St. on Saturday, October 19, 2024. Awards will be given at the same location on October 20th. Deadline for submissions is Monday, October 14. All art pieces should be delivered or mailed to the attention of Reverend Deacon Geri Nelson, Calvary Church, 408 S. Lee Street, Americus 31709.

The art contest has categories in three different media:

  • Painting & Drawing.
  • Photography-all photographs must be ready for exhibit, no digital submissions.
  • Mixed Media.

Each age category will have a first place winner as well as honorable mentions. The public will also select a best of show on Saturday during the Americus Downtown Music Festival.
