GREENSBORO, Ga. — Rolland Frederick “Fritz” Zeck, age 76, of Greensboro, Ga., passed away, Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at his home with his loved ones. Born on Nov. 27, 1940, in Sandusky, Ohio, he was the only child of the late Frederick Harry “Doc” Zeck and Berma Glass Zeck. Fritz graduated from Sandusky High School and furthered his education at Franklin College and Ohio University.

While working at Columbus and Southern Electric, he met and married Sandra Alice Adams of Coshocton, Ohio, and on June 24, 2017, they celebrated 50 years of marriage with their children and grandchildren.

Fritz found his calling in the lighting industry, starting his career at Abolite Lighting under the direction of George Siegrist. In order to further his career, he moved his family to Americus, Ga., to work for Metalux Lighting and Larry Comer, who entrusted him to start and move the division of Lumark Lighting to Dallas, Texas. After Metalux and Lumark were purchased by Cooper Lighting, Fritz became vice president of Sales under Dan Thomson and Ralph Jackson, and was promoted to president of Cooper Lighting in 1994, until he retired in 2002.

For 51 years he was a member of the Elks Club. He had a passion for golf, fishing, World War II history, food, travel and his grandchildren.

Fritz was a great leader, friend, husband and father, celebrating life to the fullest every day. He never worried about what might happen but instead focused on the present. One of his favorite sayings was “Don’t worry about the mule going blind, just hitch up the wagon and pull on the line.”

Fritz is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandra Zeck of Greensboro, Ga.; his daughter, Laura Zeck and her husband Jesse Doquilo of Seattle, Wash.; his son, Adam Zeck and his wife Katie of Charlotte, N.C.; and his three grandchildren, Grace Doquilo, Noah Zeck and Chloe Zeck; other relatives and many friends.

Even though Fritz will be greatly missed, he didn’t want to be mourned, just remembered as a person who loved life. So, at Fritz’s request, the family will hold a Celebration of Fritz’s Life later this year. The family requests that any memorials be made to the American Heart Association or the National Psoriasis Foundation. Fritz will be cremated and arrangements will be taken care of by McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W. Broad St., Greensboro, Ga. (706) 453-2626. Visit us at www.mccommonsfuneralhome.com to sign the online guest register.
