Alvin L. McLendon: Jan. 16, 2018

AMERICUS — Alvin Loyce McLendon, 84, of Americus, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, at Magnolia Manor. He was born Nov. 27, 1933, in Ellaville, Georgia, to the late G.W. McLendon and Haru Duke McLendon of Andersonville.

 

Alvin “Bo” was a retired farmer and mail carrier and lived in Andersonville for most of his life. He served a brief stint in the U.S. Army in the early 1950s in Arizona. He was known far and wide for his fair dealings with peas from his pea patch. Alvin was a lifelong member of County Line Methodist Church in Schley County, though he attended Eastside Baptist Church of Americus in the latter years of his life. He was loving and kind to all who knew him.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at Eastside Baptist Church in Americus. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. at the church before the service. Burial will follow in Oglethorpe Memorial Gardens.

 

He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Janis Harris Barry McLendon of Americus, Georgia; sister, Eva McLendon Barry of Ellaville, Georgia; daughter, Shirley McLendon (Mark) Poole of Oglethorpe, Georgia; son, Gary McLendon of Andersonville, Georgia; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his Barry brothers and sisters; a multitude of nieces, nephews and caregiver and friend, Mary Jenkins.

 

Alvin was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Barry McLendon and a granddaughter, Carrie Michael Poole.
