SYLVANIA, Georgia —  Mrs. Elizabeth Herndon-Asaro, age 89, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, at her daughter’s home in Sylvania under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The native of Sumter County, Georgia, graduated from Union High School in Leslie, Georgia. Elizabeth worked with Manhattan Shirt Co. for several years before beginning her career with Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Americus, where she retired as the personnel director. Following her retirement, Elizabeth began working for Citizens Telephone in Leslie. She moved to Sylvania, Georgia, in 2011, to live near her daughter, and had most recently been a resident of The Gardens at Southern Manor.

She was a member of Wades Baptist Church in Cooperville, Georgia.

Elizabeth was an avid gardener and enjoyed the many hours she spent in her yard caring for her flowers. Her favorite pastimes were those spent working with puzzles and going on trips to the beach.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leopold Asaro; her parents, Daniel Leroy Holloway and Fannie Mae Kitchens Holloway; a brother, D.L. Holloway and a daughter, Mary Williams.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Wendell Peavy of Sylvania; six grandchildren, Lisa Peavy Lim and Rob of Oahu, Hawaii; Stephen Peavy of Sylvania, Libby Williams James and Jason, Bo Williams and Diedra, Lindy Williams Bates and Paul, and Daniel Williams, all of Athens; a son-in-law, Jesse Williams of Leslie; a sister-in-law, Marti Holloway of Atlanta; and seven great-grandchildren.

Graveside services and burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday Dec. 31, 2018, at Leslie Cemetery. The family will receive visitors following the service.
