Lady Panthers fall at Westover in regular season finale

ALBANY, GA – The Americus-Sumter Lady Panther basketball team lost to Westover 39-19 in the regular season finale on Saturday, February 2, at Westover High School in Albany.

Tiffani Goodman led ASHS with seven points on the night.

For the Lady Patriots, they were led in scoring by Chastity Pickett with 11 points. Shamaya Loman chipped in seven in the winning cause for Westover (WHS).

After scoring 47 points in a 50-47 loss to Hardaway on Senior Night the night before, the Lady Panthers posted their lowest offensive output of the season at 19.

Both teams were evenly matched in the first quarter, with the Lady Patriots owning a 7-5 lead at the quarter’s end. However, WHS outscored ASHS 12-7 in the second quarter to take a 19-12 halftime lead.

The Lady Patriots went on an 8-2 run in the second half to seal the game. WHS finishes the regular season at 14-3 in Region 1-AAAA play. The Lady Tigers of Carver (Columbus) finished as regular season champions with a 17-0 region record.

The Lady Panthers finish the regular season at 10-14 overall and 7-9 in Region 1-AAAA play. They finish tied for fifth place with Cairo in the region standings.

ASHS will play at home against Columbus on Monday, February 4, in the first round of the Region 1-AAAA Tournament. The Lady Panthers are the #6 seed in the tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.n.
