The Americus-Sumter junior varsity Panthers soccer team brought in a 2-1 victory over the Crisp County Wildcats on March 2.

Crisp scored the first point during the first half, but the Panthers came back and tied in second half on a cross from the outside-left forward. Though the cross was deflected, Jose Ovando was there to put the ball in the net and bring the score to 1-1.

With 17 seconds left in regular time, David Ovando was tripped from behind in the Wildcats’ penalty kick box. Jose Ovando then stepped up to make the penalty kick and give the Panthers a 2-1 win.

The Americus-Sumter junior varsity boys return to the pitch on March 4 to face the Wildcats again.

Americus-Sumter soccer coach, Greg Fowler, stated “The junior varsity boys played well. This was a major improvement over our first game.”
