AMERICUS — Recently the Personal Finance class had local realtor, Mary Kathryn Davis, as a visitor to the class. She spoke to the class concerning lease agreements including the eviction process, deposits, move-in/move-out agreements, maximum occupancy laws, holdover agreements, subleasing, responsibilities of both parties — tenant and landlord — and commercial leases.
She also enlightened the students on a few house buying terms such as a warranty deed, security deed, and the right of survivorship. The importance of a good credit score when preparing to buy a house was emphasized.
The most important lesson to be learned from Davis’ visit is that “everything must be in writing, such as all notices and agreements” to avoid confusion and misunderstandings.
