Patriots power past GSW softball In doubleheader; 4-0 and 8-0

FLORENCE, S.C- The Georgia Southwestern women’s softball team (7-11, 0-4) lost both games on March 7 to Francis Marion (10-7, 1-2) at FMU Softball Stadium.

GAME 1: GSW 0, FM 4

Francis Marion took the lead after a pair of walks with loaded bases in the bottom of the second. They scored again in the bottom of the fourth with a hit out to right field bringing one home. They scored their fourth run in the bottom of the sixth with a ground out to second sending one in.

The Lady ‘Canes kept their side scoreless and finished the game with 3 hits, 0 runs, 0 RBIs and 1 error.

Savannah Carlise (2-5) took the loss for the Lady ‘Canes after pitching 4 innings. She gave up 4 hits, 3 run, walked 4 and struck out 3.

Brittany Childs pitched 2 innings, gave up 3 hits, 1 run, walked 7 and struck out 0.

GAME 2: GSW 0, FM 8

The first four innings were scoreless but Francis Marrion heated up in the bottom of the fifth and scored five runs.

It started when Barnhart hit a double to right field bringing Myers in. After Lopez walked bases were loaded and Lowe-Gardner hommered to left field getting a grand slam to make the score 5-0.

The Patroits scored three more in the bottom of the sixth. Barnhart was walked with bases loaded and Lopez singled one to left center bringing in two and make the score 8-0. The game ended after six innings.

GSW kept their side scoreless again and finished the game with 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 RBIs and 0 error.

Haley Goodson (3-6) took the loss for GSW pitching 5 innings, gave up 9 hits, 8 runs, walked 6 and struck out 6.

The Lady ‘Canes play March 8 in a doubleheader against UNC Pembroke at 1 and 3 p.m.
