AMERICUS — Richelle’s Bakery won first place during the National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend Cookie Dessert Contest recently. Their sweet concoctions earned the most online votes from the region in the contest which was intended to bring attention to the iconic Girl Scout Cookie Program.
Georgia Baking Co., also in downtown Americus, was the other local entry among eight area restaurants in the competition.
Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia sponsored the contest in celebration of Samoa’s 40th birthday. Dessert offerings ranged from Samoa cheesecake to Samoa iced coffee, chocolate and caramel infused cupcakes to Samoa crème brulee.
More than 60 restaurants council-wide drew more than 1,700 online votes. Restaurants competed against others in their own region. Winners earned a trophy and bragging rights.
