AMERICUS — The Georgia Historic Preservation Division has announced a photography contest centered on the “Historic Theatres of Georgia.” This is the Historic Preservation Division’s sixth annual online photo contest, held in conjunction with National Preservation Month in May. The contest is held in partnership with the Fox Theatre Institute, a program of Atlanta’s fabulous Fox Theatre that offers financial assistance, restoration support, and operation mentoring to historic theatres throughout Georgia and the region.

The Rylander Theatre in Americus has proudly been a part of the Fox Theatre Institute since its creation in 2008. Photo entries will be posted to the Georgia Historic Preservation Division Facebook page as they are received. Entries will be judged by a panel of experts based on creativity, choice of subject matter, and composition. Submitted photos must depict Georgia theatres that were built before 1976. This can include buildings that were built as theatres as well as other historic buildings that are now used as theatres. The top entry will received the following prizes: Two tickets for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Fox Theatre, two tickets to see any film at the Fox’s 2015 Coca-Cola Summer Film Festival, and a copy of “The Memory Maker” coffee table book about the Fox Theatre.

Rylander Theatre Managing Director, Heather Stanley, is encouraging photographers in the area, both amateur and professional, to use the Rylander as their subject.

“What an exciting possibility to have our beautiful theater photographed for the rest of the state to see and admire. We have something incredibly special here in Americus, this is the perfect opportunity to show it off.”

Interested parties are encouraged to call the theatre at 229-931-0001 and schedule a time for interior photographs, exterior photographs can be taken at any time. All other submission information can be found at www.georgiashpo.org. Submissions must be received by May 25.
