ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. (AP) — Georgia plans to begin construction in January on a new indoor facility that will give the football team a long-awaited practice location during bad weather.

Georgia has been one of the only Southeastern Conference schools without an indoor practice facility, which also will be used for other sports. It will adjoin the Butts-Mehre football building.

A two-year contract extension for basketball coach Mark Fox also was announced. Fox’s new contract will extend through the 2019-20 season and will pay $2 million per year. He also can collect a $150,000 annual longevity bonus at the end of the 2020 season.

Georgia’s athletic association board approved a 2016 budget of more than $117 million, an increase from this year’s budget of about $100 million.
