Americus man sentenced to 17.5 years in prison on child porn charges

AMERICUS — An Americus man was sentenced to over 17 years behind bars Thursday in Columbus Federal Court.

According to a news release from U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, Michael Moore, Douglas Roseth, 23, of Americus was sentenced to 210 months (17.5 years) in prison by U.S. District Judge Clay D. Land. Roseth will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison and to be on supervision for the rest of his life.

Roseth pleaded guilty on Jan. 20, 2015, to production of child pornogaphy, admitting that he had posed as a teenage girl on social media sites and enticed young boys to masturbate and expose themselves to him online. The U.S. Secret Service found sexually explicit screen shots of these chats after they began their investigation. The Secret Service, during the course of its investigation, conducted a forensic examination of Roseth’s computer and agents tracked down several of the boys who identified sexually explicit screenshots of themselves. The boys said they had been enticed to do so by who they assumed to be a teenage girl.

Roseth, of 848 Upper River, Americus, was arrested in mid-September 2014, and was denied bond.
