AMERICUS — It’s that time of year again! The Americus-Sumter County Chamber of Commerce announces the 4th Annual Sumter Scarecrow Competition, which will continue throughout the month of October. Businesses, churches and organizations around town have put together creative and eye-catching scarecrow displays, which promote county-wide unity, as well as some friendly competition.
Entries will be noted on the Sumter Scarecrow Driving Map, which will be distributed to locations throughout the community. Winners will be judged in the following categories: Overall Best in show (first-, second- and third-place awards), Most Creative, Best Depiction of Business, and People’s Choice.
Pick up a map and tour Sumter County to visit all of the wonderful and creative displays. Everyone is invited to vote for his or her favorite scarecrows on the Chamber’s Facebook page – Americus Sumter County Chamber of Commerce. Visit the 2015 Scarecrow Album and “like” your favorite scarecrow. In addition to voting on Facebook, the public may use paper ballots (available by request) which can be submitted to the Chamber or placed in a drop box located in the Best Western Plus Windsor Hotel lobby, downtown.
Voting for People’s Choice ends on Oct. 23. Winners will be announced on October 27 at a Business After Hours hosted by Roman Oven Pizzeria from 5:30-7 p.m.
