Veterans Day Parade taking shape

AMERICUS — Plans are continuing for the second annual Veterans Day Parade on Nov. 11, presented by the American Lgion Post 558, Americus.
A short program starts at 10 a.m. that day on the Sumter County Courthouse front lawn, after which the parade will be held through downtown Americus.
The program’s guest speaker will be Brig. General Thomas Carden, assistant Adjutant General of the Georgia Army National Guard, an Americus High School and Georgia Southwestern State University graduate.
Other guests are Command Sgt. Maj. Walter J. Swinson, National Guard Department of Defense and Americus High School graduate; Maj. Mathis Wright Jr., U.S. Army and graduate of Sumter County High School; Capt. Christopher Brown, U.S. Air Force and Americus High School graduate and son of Nelson and Luneda Brown of Americus; Lt. Sabrina Sharper, U.S. Army National Guard and Americus High graduate and daughter of Frank Mitchelll and Eddye Mitchell of Americus.
Maj. Wright will also be guest speaker at a luncheon at South Georgia Technical College’s Pope Center following the parade. Miss Georgia UDSA, Nova Kopp, will also make a special appearance.
