NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Louise Duck Jordan died peacefully on Nov. 23, 2015. Born Oct. 5, 1920, in Baconton, Ga., to Thomas Duck and Alpha Bowles Duck, Louise moved to Sumter County with her family in 1928. She attended Georgia Southwestern College and married Howard Wilson Jordan in 1943. Upon Howard’s death in 1957, Louise made the remarkable transition from homemaker to being a successful teacher and educator. She received further degrees from the Georgia Women’s College, Mercer University, and the University of Georgia. She taught and worked in Georgia public schools for 35 years. In 1985, she was the Georgia Mother of the Year. This honor provided opportunity to travel and make new friends throughout the country. Louise was a dedicated member of Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church and Lee Street United Methodist Church where she was a beloved Sunday School teacher and chair of every possible committee. Since 2000, she resided in Nashville, Tenn. Above all, she was a true Christian who believed in serving others and putting ones faith in action.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings John Thomas Duck, David Alfred Duck, Mary Avelyn Fort and Gwendolyn Alpha Duck and by husband Howard Wilson Jordan and son Thomas Cullen Jordan. She is survived by sons Howard Louis Jordan and John David Jordan; daughters–in-law Beverly Jordan Lipscomb, Mary Kaye Jordan and Kay Jordan. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were always dearest to her heart: grandchildren Angel Ready (Todd), Keith Jordan (Robyn), Mandy Prevatt (Todd), Cindy Kinney (Shane), Andrew Jordan (Brittany), Michael Jordan and Ashton Rogers (Charlie); great-grandchildren Casey Watson, Courtney Watson, Brandon Tucker, Hannah Tucker, Jordan Kinney, Jacie Jordan and Thomas Kinney.
Following private burial at Mount Enon Cemetery outside Baconton, friends are invited to a memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28 at Lee Street United Methodist Church, Americus, Ga. Louise wanted a party, so all are invited to a reception immediately following service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lee Street United Methodist Church.
