Southland cross country runners, Calhoun, Calcutt, named ‘South of the Border’ All-Stars

Southland Cross Country runners, Wright Calhoun and Billy Calcutt, were named to the “South of the Border” All-Star Team by Georgia Milesplit on Nov. 18, 2015.
Georgia Milesplit is the premier news and statistical clearinghouse for Georgia high school and college track and field, as well as cross country.
The “South of the Border” team honors the top cross country athletes from the 84 counties comprising South and Central Georgia, including Columbus, Macon, Savannah, Albany and Valdosta. There were eight runners named to the First Team, eight to the Second Team, and 10 honorable mentions. Southland’s top runner, Calhoun, was named to the First Team. A Columbus State signee, Calhoun finished as GISA State Runner up in 15:54 on Oct. 31.  He is a four-time Region 3AAA Individual Champion.
His teammate, Billy Calcutt, was named to the Second Team. Calcutt is a three-time Region Runner-up and finished fourth at the GISA State Championships in 16:40.
The only other GISA runner named to the squad was GISA state champion, Jacob Mcleod, of Trinity Dublin.
Also named to the team were three runners from GHSA Region 1-AAAA:  Bainbridge’s Poncharella Leonard (First Team); his teammate, Caleb Harris, (Honorable Mention); and Thomas County Central’s Sam Gelabert (Honorable Mention).
Lee County’s Robert Grooms from Region 1-AAAAAA also made honorable mention.
On the women’s side, Deerfield Windsor’s Virginia Moore and Camryn Bridges from the GISA were named to the First Team, and Thomas County Central’s Cara Eaton received honorable mention.
