Crisp County Power Commission continues to monitor the Flint

CORDELE — The Flint River at Montezuma gage site reached its crest at 22.56 ft. Wednesday and is slowly declining. At 10 a.m. Wednesday, the level at Montezuma was 21.4 ft. The river level at the Ga. Highway 27 bridge has stabilized but has not yet begun to decline. At 10 a.m. Wednesday, the lake level at Blackshear Dam was 236.01 msl, just under one foot below normal pool. The level just north of the U.S. Highway 280 bridge was 1.5 ft. above normal pool. Localized flooding continues in the very northern end of the late, south of the Ga. Highway 27 bridge. The lake is continuing to rise at a rate of about 1.5 ft. per day at this time. The Crisp County Power Commission expects the crest to pass through the main body of the lake Wednesday afternoon and lake levels should stabilize at that point.
All of the floodgates at the Lake Blackshear dam are opem with the lake level still rising. The commission anticipates beginning to close gates Wednesday afternoon as the creast passes through the lake.
Commission staff conitnue to monitor the situation and make periodic updates. Residents are urged to use caution around waters which are flowing sw ifter than normal.
