Americus Fire & Emergency Services

• Firefighters responded to 23 calls for medical attention.
• Firefighters responded to East Forsyth and Hudson streets to a report of wires sparking. They found smoke from fireworks.
• Firefighters responded to carbon monoxide detector on West Dodson Street. They found an old detector that needed to be replaced.
• Firefighters responded to Crawford Street to a possible vehicle fire. They found overheated brakes which the driver cooled with water, resulting in smoke. There was no fire.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Hickory Drive. There was no fire.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at West Forsyth Street and South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
• Firefighters responded to Horton Drive to a report of an arcing transformer. They blocked traffic until Georgia Power arrived.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a gas odor on Taylor Street. Then found not hazards.
• Firefighters responded to West Church Street to a report of a possible structure fire. The occupant told them when she plugged in a heater, it began to smoke. There was no fire.
• Firefighters responded to Horton Drive to a report of a puppy stuck in a storm drain. They found the puppy about 30 ft. into the pipe. They left to find an animal trap to place  to place at the end of the drain pipe until the next morning. Later the puppy was found to be out of the pipe and was retrieved from the drain.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at West Lamar and Lee streets.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a burning smell at a Pecan Drive residence. They found the smell coming from the HVAC unit, but no fire.
• Firefighters responded to Sharon Circle to a report of a traffic accident. Nothing was found.

• Roderick B. Arnett of 114 Holly Drive, Americus is charged with failure to obey traffic control device.
• Ervin Cook of 139 Rainbow Terrace, Americus is charged with failure to maintain lane.
• Morgan L. Gray of 276 Morhan Ford Road, Buena Vista is charged with registration/license violation.
• Jasmine S. Harris, 23, of 201 Harris St., Americus is charged with driving while license is suspended or revoked.
• Leroy Hooks, 46, homeless, is charged with battery (Domestic Violence Act), and was jailed.
• Vincent L. Mathis, 25, of Columbus is charged with obstruction of law enforcement officer and probation violation, and was jailed.
• Earnestine S. Rogers of 107 Shady Lane, Americus is charged with failure to yield right of way while entering roadway.
• Oscar L. Smith, 17, of 73-A Barbara Battle Way, Americus is charged with criminal attempt to commit a felony, and was jailed.
• Tiffany Wallace, 29, of 622-A Eastview Circle, Americus is charged with aggravated assault (other than dangerous weapon), criminal trespass and criminal in interference with government property, and was jailed.
• Anthony J. Wright of 544 U.S. Highway 280 West, Americus is charged with following too closely.

• Darryl L. Evans, 59, of Atlanta is charged with with probation violation, and was jailed.
