Schley County High hosts fall athletic awards banquet

ELLAVILLE – The Schley County High School Fall Athletic Awards Ceremony Banquet was recently held on the school’s campus, honoring the school’s athletes and their achievements on various sporting fields through the fall of 2015.
This evening began with a steak dinner, provided by the Wildcat’s Booster Club.
Todd West,  Principal of Schley County High School, opened the event by welcoming everyone to the banquet.
The school’s year book staff then showed a video that they had created, remembering some of the Wildcats’ and Lady Wildcats’ greatest moments of the fall.
At the conclusion of the video, the school’s coaches began to present the awards to members of their respective teams.
Lady Wildcats softball coach, Jody Sellars, opened the ceremony, presenting the team’s Offensive Player of the Year award to Bethany Phillips before naming Bailey McLain the team’s Defensive Player of the Year. Maddie Tobin received the Hustle Award and Emily Campbell was named as the team’s Rising Star. The Coach’s Award went to Laine Frazier. Carley McLaine was then named Outfielder of the Year.
Phillips and Bailey McLaine were both recognized for being named First Team All-Region while Campbell, Frazier, and Brandilyn Cromer were honored for being named Second Team All-Region.
Boys’ cross country head coach, Gabe Theiss, then stepped up to the podium to present the Top Cat Awards to Schley long-distance runners, Austin Anthony and Ross Minick.
For the girls’ cross country team, head coach, Tracey McCorkle presented the Top Cat Awards to Cassandra Williams and Brenda Eggers.
Cheerleading coaches, Tera Cheek and Rebecca Royal, presented Top Cat Awards to four of the squad’s members, Lauralee Michael, Bethany Hall, Madison Cheek, and Star Blankenship. Haley Sellars and Mackenzie Tobin were both honored as squad captains.
The Wildcats’ head football coach, Mark Daniel, presented senior MVP plaques to Clay Law, Glenn Pilcher, Damion Rodriguez, Corey Tanner, and Jesse Wilson.
Pilcher and Tanner were both recognized for having been named First Team All-Region for their accomplishments on the gridiron this fall. Wade Rogers was recognized for being named Second Team All-Region.
Senior Awards were then presented by Theiss, who first recognized the Lady Wildcats softball team’s seniors, Megan Cosby, Madison Hood, Tosha Kirksey, Taylor Norris, Jessica Reese, B. McLaine, C. McLaine, and Phillips.
In boys’ cross country, the team’s only senior, Jacob Brunson, was recognized, as were Myeshia Harper, Makaya Solomon, Rose Vo, and Eggers for the Lady Wildcats’ cross country team.
Senior cheerleaders, Jeena Gill, Destiny Jenkins, Laken Waters, Tobin, Sellars, and Blankenship were honored as well.
As a finale, the year’s Fall Student Athlete Awards were presented by Theiss to Gage Hart, Ginny Calhoun, and Sellars.
