Open Letter to President Carter:
Dear Mr. President,
I am writing you today on behalf of the next generation. A series of events have unfolded to this point in the 2016 race for the white house that brings us to the choice of two candidates, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. Last year you gave an interview which you called yourself a “South Georgian about as disinterested in politics as you can get.” I remember watching the clip on Youtube and feeling struck at the disappointment. You see as a boy I was blessed with the circumstances of moving to Americus, GA and attending most of middle and high school in the public schools here. As a lifelong democrat and millennial I can’t tell you how many conversations among politically inclined people my age miss the populism and people oriented policy that at the time got you elected to the highest office of the land. While unfortunate, you were defeated in 1980 by the roots of this Political Industrial-Complex that has taken ahold of our government (and also Ted didn’t help). The only candidate running for president in both parties with as strong a record on this is Bernie Sanders. Hillary Clinton while qualified to be president will not motivate our party to the polls and will ignite the same ugly and well funded rhetoric against her as they have against President Obama. Your endorsement could be the nail in the coffin in the “Deep South Primary” March 1 when the same everyday folks who propelled an honest peanut farmer from south Georgia all the way to the white house take to the polls.
I appreciate your consideration,
P.S. Pinky Masters just closed recently here, You should hear the stories people have of you there.
