AMERICUS — This year, the Sumter County Friends of the Public Library are hosting their 27th annual library play at Lake Blackshear Regional Library. Again, this year’s play has been written by Kim Fuller who will also direct.
The play — “Seance It Isn’t So!!!” — is a murder mystery with the audience trying to help determine who poisoned old Aunt Mavis (Jane Hendrix) 20 years ago and why they would do something so dastardly.
The play opens with Hector (A.J. Bailey) who was Mavis’ caretaker and sweetheart attending her funeral all alone with the local preacher (Jonathan Minich) along for company. After the service, Mavis’ relatives begin to arrive. Mavis had four nieces: shy Frieda (Robin Arial), stuck up Helen (Linda Erkhart), sweet, optimistic Sally (Hope Henderson), and surprisingly perky and youthful Pamela (Cameron Carter) and one nephew Raymond (Kevin Kwashnak) who is just a bit too laid back. But which of her relatives snuck into her house the night of the poisoning? What reason could there have been to murder old Aunt Mavis? To try and determine who the killer is, the family has returned to old home place. Accompanying Helen is her poor, overworked husband Wilbur (Bill Krenson).
Hector has information left by Mavis on the night of her poisoning that might help ferret out the killer. If that doesn’t work, local medium Lorna Lou the Lovely (Jana Carter), is all set to call the spirit of Mavis back to help solve the mystery.
There will be two performances. Saturday, Jan. 30 the performance will be accompanied by hors d’oeuvres and wine. The cost is $20 and the doors open at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, Jan. 31, the doors will open at 2:30 p.m. with homemade cookies and punch provided by the Americus Book Club.
All proceeds benefit the Sumter County Friends of the Public Library; a 501(c)3 organization whose sole purpose is to provide additional funds for the library for programing and books.
