ELLAVILLE — U.S. Congressman Sanford Bishop, D-Ga., visited Schley County Middle/High school Tuesday to welcome his donation of books from the Library of Congress. The donated books will provide students from sixth through 12th grades with challenging reading materials, build a broader library collection at the school, and encourage out-of-classroom learning.
The opportunity to receive books from the Library of Congress is open to all libraries in Middle and Southwest Georgia.
Bishop met with Schley school administrators, teachers, and students to present over 200 donated books. He talked to the high school’s Student Government Association about the importance of reading and reminded them of their neighbor, former President Jimmy Carter, and the endless possibilities for each of them if they, too, embrace reading and set their sights on noble goals.
