Joan Converse and April Beamon’s kindergarten students at Sumter County Early Learning Center have been composing shapes with marshmallows and toothpicks. They made 2-D shapes such as triangles, squares, diamonds, pentagons, and rectangles. Then they discussed 3-D shapes such as cubes, rectangular prisms, and triangular prisms. They discussed how those shapes could be made.
