LESLIE — Funeral services were scheduled for this morning for the 3-year-old boy who drowned Saturday.
According to Greg Hancock, Sumter County coroner, Jase E. Davenport, 3, and his 6-year-old brother were with family at the home on Holman Road around 7:30 p.m. Saturday. He said the adults were sitting on the front porch and the two boys walked to the backyard where an in-ground pool held rainwater. The older child walked back into the front yard without his brother and when the adults went to investigate, the 3-year-old was found in the pool.
EMS responded to the scene and the child was airlifted to the Children’s Medical Center in Macon, where he died at 1:29 a.m. Sunday, according to the coroner.
The body was sent to the state crime lab for autopsy, as required by state law. While Hancock said “we’re pretty sure we know the cause of death (drowning),” the final report will have to wait for medical records and toxicology screens.
The little boy was described in his obituary, in its entirety on page 3A, as “all boy” and “loved country music, tractors, riding his bike and playing with trucks. Most of all, he loved pretending to be a cop, always wearing his guns and hat. He was truly loved by his family.”
Jase is the son of Michael Eric Davenport of Cordele and Ashley Nicole Holman Davenport of Leslie.
