City announces new tourism director

AMERICUS — The City Manager of Americus, Steve Kennedy, announced today that Nicole Thurston has been chosen to fill the position of tourism director of the City of Americus.
Thurston was one of three finalists for the position, and comes to Americus with a solid history of achievement in tourism, marketing and nonprofit. She currently serves as executive director of the Friends of the Cannonball House Inc. and is a freelance writer for the 11th Hour and Macon Magazine. In addition, she was formerly the director of Sales and Marketing for the Tubman African American Museum and Marketing and Communications director for the American Heart Association.
Thurston’s areas of expertise include public relations, strategic planning and management. She holds a bachelor of science in mass communication from Georgia College and State University. Her official first day will be May 16.
