MACON COUNTY — Two Buena Vista men were killed in a head-on crash with a passenger bus in rural Macon County Thursday morning.
Cpl. Michael Screws of the Georgia State Patrol Post 15, Perry, who investigated the accident, told the Times-Recorder he was notified at 7:07 a.m. of the crash, located two miles from the Houston County line on Ga. Highway 26.
The trooper said a small car, driven by Billy McMurray Jr., 24, of Buena Vista, was traveling west on 26 while a passenger bus (owned by Tystanic of Americus) was traveling east. The car entered the eastbound lane for an unknown reason. Screws said the driver of the bus attempted to avoid the car by steering left, but the car struck the bus head on. The impact was partially in the eastbound lane near the centerline.
Screws said the driver and the passenger of the car, Larico Dixon, 27, of Buena Vista, were both pronounced dead at the scene. He also said, “Based on roadway evidence, it was confirmed that the car entered the eastbound lane into the path of the bus. The tour bus was only occupied by the driver at the time of the crash. The driver of the bus had no visible injuries.”
