AMERICUS — Janice Arleen “Jan” Ward, age 69, of Americus, died at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center Friday, June 3, 2016. A native of Valdosta, she was born April 15, 1947, the daughter of the late Riley and Ruth Taylor. Jan was of the Baptist faith, a retired bookkeeper and co-publisher of the Americus Shopper alongside her husband Joel. She was a mother and best friend who loved working with flowers in her yard, horses, birds, nature and her home. Jan was an avid bowler and the only female to bowl a perfect game in the history of Albany, Ga.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2016, in the chapel of Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Rick Smith and a nephew, Clint Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. at the Douglas City Cemetery in Douglas, Ga. Pallbearers include Lee Cooper, Devin Kahle, Brandon Kahle, Ray Cooper, Ferrell Smith and Semaj Ward. The family will receive friends Monday, June 6, 2016 one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Georgia Sheriff’s Boy’s Ranch, 5671 Ga. Highway 122 E., Hahira GA 31632 or to Sumter Humane Society, 108 Industrial Blvd., Americus GA 31719.
Survivors include her husband of over 50 years, Joel Ward of Americus; a daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) Ann Kahle of Sallisaw, Okla.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Fran and Ray Cooper of Montrose, Ga., Shirley and Jim Ramage of Yulee, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Melissa Taylor of Westminster, S.C.; two grandchildren, Brandon Kahle of Americus and Devin Kahle of Sallisaw, Okla., and many nieces and nephews.
