AMERICUS — As spring days turn to summer, Rudy’s Happy Patch Market continues its tradition of offering the best locally grown produce in the area. This time of year, the local recovery center’s peer-run market is particularly excited about the availability of nationally famous Chase Farms corn.
Recently, regular discussions began between Chase Farm Market, located in Oglethorpe, and Perry Wellness Center (PWC) in Americus regarding the seasonal purchase and shipment of the in-demand corn. Anticipation about the first shipment spread throughout the market and PWC campus. Market customers also expressed their excitement. Between word of mouth and radio ads by local radio, the watch was on. (Dare we say there were ears to the ground?)
“With great partnership with WISK and posting on social media, our customers are more quickly informed of our progress,” Perry Wellness Center founder and CEO Stuart Perry noted. Days before the first delivery, the center began receiving numerous calls from customers, eager to pick up their first order of the season.
Market manager Phyllis Smith observed, “It appears that our customers mark their calendars in anticipation of this product.”
To fulfill the dreams of local customers, a large truck recently traveled to the farm to obtain dozens of morning-picked ears of corn. Chase Farms’ family representative Ellen Chase helped make the magic happen.
“Freshness is our hallmark,” she explained. “We only pick corn from our fields to fill the orders of that day.”
She continued, “Stuart is a great guy, and Happy Patch Market was selected as the only Americus outlet for Chase Farms corn. We are excited to help our friend as he helps our family business and people in Southwest Georgia who suffer from mental illness and substance abuse.”
Perry clearly has equal admiration for the farm enterprise. “I am always eager to offer Chase Farms corn,” he said. “Mrs. Chase and her family have been good to us, and I want to support our mutual relationship.”
The long awaited Chase Farms corn is now available at Rudy’s Happy Patch Market for $5 per dozen ears or $2.50 for six ears.
