PLAINS — Looking for a unique way to celebrate Independence Day this summer? What better than sharing in a community-wide celebration of this historic date than in the hometown of our nation’s 39th President of the United States Jimmy Carter?
At 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, Plains Better Hometown, the Friends of the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site, and the One Sumter Economic Development Foundation will host the first  “Plains, Trains and Fireworks” event. Kicking off with a street dance at 8 p.m. with live entertainment, food vendors, activities for children of all ages, and spirits sold on site, the event promises to be fun for the whole family as a special excursion train of the SAM Shortline will bring participants from all over to share in the fun and celebrate the Fourth! The event will culminate with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. It’s sure to be an evening and a tradition you won’t want to miss!
This event is free and open to the public. For more information call  Plains Better Hometown Director Ruth Sanders at 229-824-5373.
