AMERICUS — The C.B. Dowdell American Legion Post 558 in Americus is organizing its third annual Veterans Day Parade for Nov. 11. The organization has had highly successful parades for the past two years, and expects an even bigger event this year.
“The 2014-15 parade turned out a large community of people from Americus and surrounding counties as well as an Air Force officer from France,” said Frank Mitchell, parade chairman/organizer. “It was exciting and memorable as we proclaimed it to be. We strive to make this a big event and we extend an invitation to local and area organizations to participate in this year’s parade.”
Anyone interested individual, group or organization wishing to participate in this year’s parade can call Frank Mitchell at 229-938-4310.
“We are encouraging our community to come out and support or veterans, and service men and women of our armed forces,” Mitchell said. “We are asking parents and our education system to encourage our students to take part in the parade or to show support.” Nov. 11 is a school holiday in the Sumter County Schools System.
“All parade units are asked to show support to the veterans, by holding or placing signs on their vehicles, and all downtown businesses are asked to place a red, white and blue bow in their downtown window to show support for the veterans,” Mitchells said.
