Fugitive apprehended in Plains

AMERICUS — A fugitive from Gwinnett County was captured early Monday afternoon in Plains.
According to Sumter County Sheriff Pete Smith, Xavier Juvelle Geder, 33, was apprehended by the United States Marshal- Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, assisted by the Plains Police Department, Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and Webster County Sheriff’s Office. Geder was wanted for the shooting of an off-duty police officer who was working as a security guard, on Sept. 1 in Gwinnett County.
The sheriff said that Geder was spotted Monday afternoon on Ga. Highway 308 in Plains and was taken into custody without incident. Geder is being housed at that Sumter County Law Enforcement Center on charges of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery.
