AMERICUS — The Main Street Board recently approved a new grant to assist downtown businesses and property owners in renovating their buildings. The “Turn the Lights on Grant” is a partnership with Georgia Power to help in the cost of upgrading electrical services in downtown buildings. This would include all wiring that may be “knob and tube” and upgrading it to meet the current code for electrical work.
Because this is a new program City asks that anyone interested in this program come and meet with Patrick Kay, director, Americus Main Street and Downtown Development Authority, before beginning the application process. All work would also need to be approved by the City’s Building and Inspections Department.
This is a first come, first serve program so get applications in early. The grant will pay 50 percwnt and up to $2,500 of the total electrical project. This is a great opportunity and a great partnership with Georgia Power to assist in electrical work and get meters turned on that may not be currently in use. Priority will be given to projects that do not currently have a working meter and will receive one because of work being done through this program.
Come to the Main Street Office located in City Hall at 101 W. Lamar St. to pick up an application and learn how your project can benefit from this program.
