AMERICUS — A migrant farm worker was injured Friday afternoon at Minor Farms near Leslie.
Sgt. Kyle Selph of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, who responded to the call, said the worker was riding on top of a trailer filled with squash being pulled by a pickup truck which was pulling two trailers. The deputy said the man fell off the first trailer and was run over by the second trailer, which was empty.
The Haitian man, identified as Gean Dumezile, 64, of Standard Elevator Road, Leslie, was airlifted to the Medical Center in Macon. Selph did not know the extent of the man’s injuries at press time.
“Safety is a real important factor in farm work,” the deputy commented.
The Times-Recorder will update this story when more details of the injured man’s condition are known.
