3rd annual Veterans Day Parade is Nov. 11

AMERICUS — Again this year, the American Legion Post 558, Americus, Veterans Day Parade Committee is organizing its annual Veterans Day Parade. This event, the third, is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11. In continuing with its goal, Post 558 hopes to make this parade bigger and better than the previous ones.
The 2015 parade turned out a large community of people from Americus and surrounding counties as well as an Air Force Officer from France.
“It was exciting and memorable. Each year we strive to make this parade bigger and better than the last one,” said Frank Mitchell, Vietnam veteran, Post 558 member, and chairman of the Parade Committee.
Post 558 extends an invitation to organizations to participate in the Veterans Day Parade. Line-up will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. at the Sumter County Courthouse parking lot. A short ceremony will precede the parade at beginning at 10 a.m. in front of the courthouse with guest speaker, Col. Eric Bryant, chief deputy, Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Following the parade, a ceremony and luncheon will be held at the American Legion Post 558, Ga. Highway 30 West for special invited guests, sponsors, members and the Auxiliary Guest speaker for the luncheon is U.S. Army, retired, Dewayne A. Sparks Sr. of Jacksonville, Florida. He is a Licensed D.C. Security Specialist Certified Instructor.
All parade units are asked to show support to the veterans, by holding or placing signs on their vehicle that show support. Local downtown businesses are also asked to place a red, white and blue bow in their downtown window to show support to veterans.
