Americus Fire & Emergency Services
• Firefighters responded to 36 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to a carbon monoxide detector on North Lee Street. It was an alarm malfunction.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Crawford Street and Oglethorpe Avenue.
• Firefighters responded to a wild land fire on Cherokee Street. The found woods burning and extinguished it. They responded again to the same area, from Tripp Street, at the request of Americus Police and Georgia Forestry. There was no fire but smoke was coming from the previous fire break. They responded a third time a report of smoke in the area, but there was no fire. Firefighters responded to the same location again off Tripp Street in some woods behind a business to a small brush fire believed to be a rekindle from the previous fire. And again a few hours later where they extinguished a small woods fire.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a possible structure fire on Eastview Circle. Upon investigation the occupant told them a cord had sparked and tripped a breaker. The manager was contacted.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident at Tripp and East Lamar streets.
• Firefighters responded to North Jackson and Rucker streets to a report of a fire on the ground. Upon arrival they found the fire had been extinguished. They also found lighter fluid and a box of cigarettes that had been burned.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Lamar Street.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm at the Windsor Hotel, 125 W. Lamar St. which was determined to be in the basement area. It was a faulty alarm.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on East Lamar Street where they found light smoke throughout the building and an HVAC technician who told them that an overpressurized freon line had burst.
• Firefighters responded to South Jackson add West Church streets to a small rubbish fire. They informed the homeowners of the City’s no-burn ordinance.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on West Lamar Street which had been activated by workers drilling on the second floor.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a wild land fire on Dixon Drive. They found a tire burning in the woods which they extinguished, and wet the surrounding area.
• Firefighters responded to Winchester Street to a report of gas odor. They found there was no gas going into the structure and the occupant told them it could be a dead animal underneath the house. They found no hazards.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Lamar Street.
