Cool holiday stuff to do in Americus

Willett Way Wonderland is lighting up every night through Christmas night, weather permitting. Santa will be in attendance on certain nights. The lights are on until 11 p.m. on weekends through New Year’s Eve. Santa’s hours are usually from around 6-8:30 p.m. or so, depending on the traffic. A schedule is posted the Willet Way Wonderland Facebook page. Be sure to bring your cameras! Sumter on Ice, sponsored by the Sumter County Chamber of Commerce, is open in Rylander Park, downtown, Americus. Skates in all sizes are available for children and adults of all ages to rent. The cost to skate is $5 per person for an hour. Hours of operation are 4-9 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays; 10 a.m.- 9 p.m. Saturdays and 1-6 p.m. Sundays. Monday, Dec. 26, is ‘Skating for Service’ when public safety officials from all branches of service and their families skate free from 1-9 p.m. The public can also skate that day at the normal charge. The Chamber will grill and serve hotdogs throughout the day at no cost, and skaters and onlookers can mingle and demonstrate gratitude for all who serve and protect the community all year. The ice is closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The Americus Times-Recorder is one of the media partners of the event.
