Local man killed in wreck

AMERICUS — A one-vehicle traffic accident in rural Sumter County Wednesday resulted in the death of a local man.
According to the report from Georgia State Patrol Post 10, which investigated the wreck, Charles Douglas Warren, 74, of 104 Sylvan Ridge Road, Americus, was driving a 1994 Ford Ranger pickup truck eat on 30 at approximately 3 p.m. when he traveled onto the south shoulder. After overcorrecting, the truck rotated counterclockwise as it traveled across both lanes of 30 onto the north shoulder.
The truck continued to travel into the north ditch, striking a culvert with its right rear wheel. It also struck a stop sign at Darden Road with its right side as it began to overturn.
The truck overturned onto its right side, partially ejecting the driver. The vehicle came to an uncontrolled final rest on the west shoulder of Darden Road, partially in the southbound lane. The area of impact was determined to be on the north shoulder of 30 at the intersection with Darden Road.
The driver was not wearing a seatbelt. He was dead at the scene, according to J.B. Hicks, deputy coroner for Sumter County.
