AMERICUS – South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) Lady Jets returning sophomore guard, La’Deja James, was recently selected as the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association GCAA Division I women’s basketball player of the week for the third time this season.
James, who is from Virginia Beach, Va., averaged 22 points in the Florida Southwestern Classic in Ft. Myers, Fl. earlier in December. She also averaged 10 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 3.5 steals and 2.5 blocked shots in the Lady Jets performance at the tournament. The Lady Jets split decision in that tournament, defeating Indian River State College before losing to Florida Southwestern.
“La’Deja has certainly stepped up and become the leader of this team on and off the court,” said South Georgia Technical College Athletic Director and Lady Jets head basketball coach, James Frey. “She did a good job for us as a freshman, but she has worked extremely hard in the off season and after practice and it is paying off. She has the tools to be as good as she wants to be.”
The Lady Jets are 12-2 overall this season and opened their GCAA schedule on Dec. 17, when they took on Andrew College in the Hangar on the Americus campus. The Lady Jets won their conference opener 90-55.
The Lady Jets are currently enjoying a short break for Christmas and will return to action to host the Lady Jets Holiday Classic on Dec. 29-30. They will play Broward College at 7:00 p.m. on Dec. 29 and then host St. Petersburg College at 4:00 p.m. on Dec. 30. The Jets will play that same weekend at the Southwest Florida classic in Ft. Myers, FL.
The two teams will open the new year at home on Jan. 4. The Lady Jets will take on Chattahoochee Technical College in the first half of a double-header at 5:30 p.m. and then the Jets will also take on Chattahoochee Tech at 7:30 p.m.
