Top law enforcement to be honored with scholarship event

AMERICUS — A gala has been planned for February to raise money for a local scholarship fund and to honor local law enforcement. The event is sponsored by the children of Bernice High-Green.
The first Glitz & Glitter Red and White Valentine Gala will be held from 8-11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Rees Park Economic Development Center, 409 Elm Ave.
The event will honor Americus Police Chief Mark Scott, Sumter County Sheriff Pete Smith, and Georgia Southwestern State University Chief of Security, Mike Tracy for their years of dedicated service to the community. Proceeds from the gala will support the Bernice High-Green Scholarship Foundation.
The formal event will feature a live jazz band, food, and cocktails. Karla Heath-Sands and the Fire & Ice Band are featured. Tickets are $50 per person and a limited number of reserved tables are available for $500. Tickets can be purchased at PeopleSouth Bank, First State Bank, Wells Fargo and Citizens Bank, all in Americus.
