Batallion Chief Roger Bivins, a 25-plus year veteran of Americua Fire & Emergency Services, has been hired as the new fire chief. The announcement was made at the monthly meeting of the Americus Mayor and City Council Thursday, by City Manager Steve Kennedy.

Bivins will replace longtime Chief Allen Erkhart, who is retiring next month.
