AMERICUS — The City of Americus holds the Walk of Fame Ceremony and Reception at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 11 at the Rylander Theatre, downtown, and the community is invited.
The Walk of Fame recognizes citizens from Americus and Sumter County, past and present, who have made “a significant contribution to our community and have been an example to the rest of the world of the greatness that is cultivated here,” according to the City of Americus.
Those to be recognized Sunday are Nelson T. Brown Jr., City Council member; William S. Harris, local business and civic leader; George B. Hooks, former state representative and state senator; Annie Bell Moss, local founder of Helping Hands food kitchen; and the late Peggy Sheppard, a longtime promoter of Andersonville and writer/editor.
Cecil Horne, chairman of the Walk of Fame Committee, will give the welcome, followed by City Manager Steve Kennedy introducing the speaker, state Rep Bill McGowan, D-Americus. Americus Mayor Barry Blount will introduce the honorees and closing remarks will come from Terri Wooden of the Walk of Fame Committee.
A reception and light refreshments will follow at George’s Soda Fountain in the foyer of the Rylander Theatre.
Other members of the Walk of Fame Committee include Marvin Harris, Debbie Smith and Tommy Harrell.
